How about a little CyVerse “window shopping”? This Focus Forum will give you a peak into the Data Store, the heart of CyVerse cyberinfrastructure. Both novice users and experienced users will learn tips and tricks for maximizing the ease and flexibility of uploading, downloading, accessing, discovery, and publication of private and public research data. This webinar will focus on three main topics:
• Uploading and downloading data to CyVerse using the Discovery Environment (DE, our scientific analysis and data management web interface), iCommands (a command line tool), CyberDuck (an open source desktop client), and FUSE (an open source tool for viewing and editing cloud-based file systems that works on Mac or Linux). We’ll cover working with data in Atmosphere virtual machines and connecting data to genome browsers
• Strategies and best practices for managing data using CyVerse tools for sharing and organizing data, including metadata in the DE.
• How to publish data using CyVerse, including publishing sequence data to NCBI, how to request a DOI in the CyVerse Data Commons, and how to create a Community Released Data folder in the Data Commons, so others can find/re-use your data.
There will be plenty of time for questions and answers, so bring your data management challenges for us to discuss. Because the Data Store offers solutions for managing your data throughout the entire data lifecycle, we’ll hold a follow-up advanced Data Store webinar in a few months to tackle topics like accessing the Data Store via API, iRODS federation, and content delivery.
After the webinar, materials (video, Q&A, chat, etc.) will be posted on the CyVerse wiki here.
Focus Forum webinars are offered on various topics and are designed to enhance users' experience with CyVerse tools and platforms. They give users an opportunity to interact with CyVerse staff and community members to learn about new tools, discuss "best practices" for performing analyses and troubleshooting any potential difficulties, and connect with the community. During the year, topics may focus on any CyVerse science area or service, or using and developing any platform. Users may suggest and vote for webinar topics through the Ask Forum.
Who Should Attend?
This webinar is open to people who are using the CyVerse resources and want to learn more about the specific topic. Users are encouraged to post questions and problems encountered to the Ask Forum for discussion during the webinar.
